For the past six months, we’ve been improving how BlogVault backs up large databases.
And now, that work has paid off: Backups on larger, busier sites are 50 to 80% faster.
The biggest difference shows up on sites like WooCommerce stores, membership sites, LMS platforms, etc., where orders pile up, plugins keep adding data, and eventually, your database has millions of rows.
BlogVault could already back up such sites reliably; it just took longer because there were more rows to work through.
Now with our improved algorithm, even the biggest databases can be backed up within minutes.
If you’re a BlogVault or WPRemote customer, this improvement is already live on the backend. There’s nothing to set up or change.
Where you’ll notice it most
For an agency, the real difference shows up on the sites that are usually the hardest to back up.
Take a busy WooCommerce store that has been running for years. It accumulates a lot of data, changes throughout the day, and a database sync can take hours simply because there’s so much to get through.
We tested one such store, and the backup time went from 3 hours 10 minutes to just 23 minutes.
Then there are sites where the database is constantly changing because of memberships, courses, orders, user activity, plugin data, etc.
Syncing one such LMS site with a massive database of 30 million rows dropped from 1 hour 23 minutes to just 14 minutes.
We’ve seen such improvements across 40,000+ sites now. The sites with the most data and usually the most difficult backups benefit the most.
But speed isn’t the only benefit
The shorter backup window makes an already reliable backup even more reliable.
The faster a backup completes, the less pressure it puts on your server, and in turn that reduces any chances of timeouts even more.
Another benefit is convenience. When a backup takes hours, timing becomes another thing agencies have to think about:
- Should it run when traffic is lower?
- Will it put extra pressure on a busy client site?
- What happens if the site keeps changing while the backup is still running?
When that same backup finishes in a fraction of the time, there’s simply less to worry about.
