BlogVault’s Auto Restore feature from inside the Backup module allows you to automatically restore a backup of your WordPress site in case it crashes. The backup version you select will be used to restore your site to the same domain (and URL) that you had, within minutes. You can choose either the latest backup or another backup version of your WordPress site for this purpose.

Automatically Restoring Your WordPress Site
The first step to automatically restoring your site is in choosing the backup version you would like to restore.
Choosing a Backup Version
You can restore your WordPress site using the Auto Restore feature in one of two ways:
1. Directly from the Auto Restore feature of the Backup module. This will restore the latest backup version of your WordPress site.
2. From the History feature (the first tab under the Backup module)
The History page allows you to choose any backup version to Auto Restore your WordPress site from.
Filling up FTP Details
Once you click on Auto Restore, you are taken to the FTP details form that requires you to fill up the following details:
- Your FTP Host or Server name
- The FTP type of your hosting service (FTP, SFTP, or FTPS)
- Your FTP username
- Your FTP password
These credentials allow BlogVault to access the details of the location to which your files needs to be transferred and automatically restore your site.
Once you are done filling up these details, click on ‘Continue’.
Selecting Where WordPress is Installed
This takes you to a page that asks to select the folder that your WordPress site is installed in. If you are using your hosting provider’s cPanel, this would typically be the webroot directory i.e. /public_html. Another way to identify the location is to look for WordPress files such as wp-admin, wp-content, etc. In case you select the wrong folder, BlogVault immediately alerts you of an error and doesn’t continue the process so you can not damage your website.
Once you have selected the folder, click on ‘Continue’.
Choosing What to Restore
The next step is choosing what to restore to your WordPress site. The BlogVault dashboard takes you to a form that asks you about the details of what you would like to restore:
- The History Version: This field is automatically filled up according to the backup version you’d chosen to restore your site from; if you’d clicked on ‘Auto Restore’ directly from the Backup module, then it will be filled in with the latest backup version of your site. If you’d chosen a backup version from the History page, however, the form will take that backup’s version number. You can click on the drop-down to select a backup version if you change your mind.
- Your WordPress site’s database credentials: BlogVault fills up these details automatically, from the WordPress configuration files of your site.
- Advanced Options: These options allow you to choose if you’d like to Auto Restore only files or tables of your WordPress site. You can also specify a Name Server if in case your server crashed. Doing so would help you restore your files and tables to a new server on the same hosting service.
- HTTP Basic Authentication: These credentials, are only required only if your site is protected through Basic HTTP Authentication.
Clicking on ‘Continue’ after filling up this form (if you need to fill up any details, that is), will start the automatic restoration of your WordPress site.
